Why Vote?

Important Info

Your ballot papers will be included in the Voice magazine.

Despatch of Ballot Papers: 21 April 2010.

Close of Ballot: 11 May 2010 (first post).

It has been noted that in recent times a lack of enthusiasm surrounds the process of electing the leadership of the union.

In an attempt to understand this, whilst debating the relevance of the Executive elections at a recent meeting a member raised an interesting point. He described the reaction of members when they got the ballot papers, biographies, election addresses and associated paperwork:

“Executive Election: Vote, Who are they? Why bother? What’s it got to do with me?”

Just a few questions that might enter in to your mind when you receive your national executive ballot information.

  • For Central Counties & Thames Valley Branch members this is the first time for many years we will have the chance to help elect someone from our own branch to the NEC.
  • This is your chance to influence the direction that the union takes.
  • Chic has always shown a fierce loyalty to the people that he represents. There are quite a few people working for the businesses represented by the union who would not be doing so but for him.
  • Voting in an NEC Election is something that affects members as much as a pay ballot.
  • Voting for Chic will be the first step towards getting your thoughts and opinions listened to where it matters.
  • Even if you do not know the other people nominated, if they are just names on a list, the Central Counties & Thames Valley Branch committee (and no doubt other branches) will soon be sending out their recommendations for the people they feel will best represent the members in their nominated postions.
